Jim > I used a Canon 70-200 with a 1.4 extender. this was a quick reflex shot, you could not tell when the whale would surface or dive. All the action happens in seconds not minutes. One problem I had with the telephoto was when the whale came up to the boat, I was too close and the shots don't make sense since they are so close in.

Jim > PT. Dume, California Great place to take pictures of land, ocean, sky, birds and people. Good walking areas go when close to low tide and you can walk on the beach and see the star fish embedded in the rocks.
