"Every Drop is a Gift" Macro shot. Heavy dew made the conditions right. Marguerita Ave. Santa Monica, CA
Generic name is tent catepillar. You may see their white thready nests in the trees. Very destructive to some tree and plant forms. They eat and eat and eat. I shot this little guy at Malibu Lagoon with a Canon 100mm lens using a tripod. He has to look menacing to other critters. His hair bristled and seemed like it would be hard for a smaller creature to attack it due to the pointy hair.
1st Place for Macro Photography at the Santa Clarita Valley Photography Association Spring Open Competition. "Itsey Bitsey Aphid" was not the intended shot just happened to get in the view finder. The family name is: Aphidididae and the order is: homoptera; very small insect, they like moisture and sure enough this little guy was near a waterfall so the grass is always moist. Also the sun shines on this particular spot maybe 5 hours a day otherwise it is indirect ambiant light or dark. Swallowtail Butterfly. The condition of this butterfly was perfect. I suspect that it was less than a day old.
